Using excess heat from industrial installations can be an economically viable as well as energy-efficient solution that contributes to a decarbonization of the heating and cooling sector. Large potentials for the use of excess heat in district heating systems have been identified in recent studies. These indicate that excess heat can become a central pillar in future DH supply, whereas much of this heat is wasted today. The knowledge about the availability of excess heat potentials is, however, so far relatively limited with only few studies available.
In this webinar, results and methods from four recently finished state-of-the-art studies are presented. The studies vary, among others, in their geographical focus, their methods used and in their spatial resolution.
